When you sign up, we collect your email address. Once you set up your account on the Settings page, we also store the interests prompt you write (used to find posts for you), your preferred send hour and timezone, how many posts per day you want, and whether you've asked for recent posts only. If you vote on a post (👍/👎), we store that vote and any comment you add. If you subscribe to the paid plan, we store your Lemon Squeezy customer and subscription ids and the subscription's status; your payment details stay with Lemon Squeezy and never reach us.
Your email address is used to send you your daily picks and account-related messages (confirmation links, login links). Your interests prompt is turned into a vector embedding (by Voyage, see below) that we compare against incoming posts to find ones you might like, and is also shown to an LLM (Jev, see below) that scores how well each candidate post fits you. Your votes and comments are used to improve future picks for your account. We don't sell your data or use it for advertising.
We use a small number of third-party services to run Barista:
We don't use any analytics or advertising cookies. The only cookie this site sets is a session cookie that keeps you logged in; it's not used to track you anywhere else.
We currently keep account data for as long as your account exists. If you unsubscribe, we stop sending you anything but keep your account so you can resume later. If you delete your account (see below), your email address, interests prompt, votes, and pending post selections are permanently removed.
You can view and change your settings any time at Settings, pause/resume sending, or permanently delete your account and all associated data from the same page. If you'd rather not use the website, email us at hello@thecoder.cafe and we'll do it for you.
Barista is a tech-news digest: we pick a handful of posts from around the web each day and email them to you based on interests you describe. It's provided "as is", without warranty of any kind — we try to make good picks, but we can't guarantee any particular post, delivery time, or that the service will always be available.
You're responsible for the email address you sign up with and for keeping any login link we send you to yourself. One account per email address. Don't use Barista for anything illegal, or try to abuse, overload, or scrape the service.
The free plan sends 1 post per day. The paid plan lets you pick up to 10 per day, for $5 per month. It's sold by our reseller, Lemon Squeezy, which acts as merchant of record: it charges you, handles taxes (such as VAT), issues invoices, and processes refunds, under its own terms. You can cancel any time from "Manage subscription" on the Settings page; you keep the paid plan until the end of the period you've paid for, then go back to 1 post per day. Deleting your account cancels the subscription.
Barista links to and summarizes content published by third parties elsewhere on the web. We don't claim ownership of that content, and we're not responsible for it — clicking through is at your own discretion.
We may update these terms or our privacy practices as the product changes. If we make a material change, we'll note the "last updated" date above; continued use of the service after a change means you accept the update.
Questions about either policy: hello@thecoder.cafe.
